Lù (禄), a character interpreted in English as the concept of success, is one element of Metakaos’s Auspicious Series—a quartet of sculptures that embody the four elements of a good life in Chinese culture.

Lù generally pertains to the concept of success—the attainment of wealth, social position, honours, or the like. The concept of Lù originated from feudal China, where educated men would dedicate multiple years of their lives just to qualify for an appointment to a public office, and the honour and sense of satisfaction from holding such a position was often considered to be the ultimate success.

In the centuries since, Lù’s meaning has evolved to denote gratification and happiness through one’s achievements in their career. The character 禄 has grown into a sort of good-luck charm for a business’s success, ensuring its continued fortune, prosperity, and longevity.

Lù, as well as the rest of The Auspicious Series, comes in various sizes and is available in copper, bronze–gold, stainless steel, and bronze–copper.
